What would it be like to daily live in the awareness of God's power? Some weeks it is a real battle to live victorious amidst the onslaught of numerous trials and struggles. But Psalm 68 reminds us of the unseen armies at God's disposal, ready to fight on our behalf.
"The chariots of God are tens of thousands and thousands of thousands;"
I think that's a lot of chariots. With all the pain and craziness around, how refreshing to be reminded of the limitless resources of God's power. It reminds me of the words of the prophet Elisha in 2 Kings 6. He and his servant were surrounded by the army of the King of Aram and were facing certain death. The panic-stricken servant came to Elisha who calmly answered-
‘Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.’ And Elisha prayed, ‘Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see.’ Then the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all round Elisha.' 2 Kings 6:16-17
There are those chariots again - and now they are on fire - all poised to do the Father's bidding. When we look at our circumstances with only earthly eyes, we don't see the heavenly armies dispatched on our behalf to work in the situations of our lives in ways we can't even imagine. I'm praying that God would open our eyes as well and help us remember those fiery chariots as we are on our knees in the battles we face. Let's cry out with the words of David-
"Summon your power, God; show us your strength, our God, as you have done before...to him who rides across the highest heavens, the ancient heavens, who thunders with mighty voice. Proclaim the power of God, whose majesty is over Israel, whose power is in the heavens. You, God, are awesome in your sanctuary; the God of Israel gives power and strength to his people. Praise be to God! "Psalm 38:28, 32-35
Here is a battle song I wrote a few years back, "Summon Your Power." Sing it with heavenly eyes and belive God is powerfully working for our eternal good. https://soundcloud.com/ericahdean/summon
