Pour Out Your Heart

Are you honest with God?  When it feels like the world is going crazy and life is heavy with injustice, sickness and hurt where do we go with our cries of pain?  Social media? family or friends?  While these outlets can be somewhat helpful, the only one whose shoulders can bear the weight of our pain is our loving, good Father.  But are we willing to turn our eyes to Him and pour out our hearts? In the Old Testament book of Ruth, troubled mother-in-law Naomi was not afraid to be  honest and even rant at God. Her words are so raw!

‘Don’t call me Naomi,’ she told them. ‘Call me Mara, because the Almighty has made my life very bitter.  I went away full, but the Lord has brought me back empty. Why call me Naomi? The Lord has afflicted me; the Almighty has brought misfortune upon me.’Ruth 1:20

When we are feeling hurt and bitter, it's easy to turn away from God instead of towards Him.   Although Naomi was destitute and discouraged she still moved towards God as she wept, returning to her home in the promised land of her God. He met her there and worked miracles she could have never even imagined.

In recent days I've seen some dear loved ones walking through some situations of unbelievable loss and pain.  Even in our tears, it's only as we continue to press into the presence of Jesus that will see Him working on our behalf.. bringing the comfort, trust and perspective we need.

O my people, trust in him at all times.
Pour out your heart to him,
for God is our refuge. Psalm 62:8

Here is an honest, questioning song about how I sometimes define God incorrectly!                  God in a Box
